Price's new Forever Family knew he was the one for them when he flopped down next to his prospective new "dad" Stephen and put his head on his arm...only an hour after first meeting them! His Forever Family tell us that he has settled into their home perfectly and is a cheerful fellow who loves tossing around his stuffy as much as he loves lounging on his bed. His Forever Family was told by Price's Foster Family told them that he has a sense of humour and they've already seen it; the first night he was snoozing quite soundly but suddenly he jumped up and onto their bed, laid down, stretched all the way across, immediately closed his eyes and refused to budge, like a little kid pretending to be asleep! He also likes to come behind you and push his head between your knees. His new "mom" likes to play with him in the yard and he'll dash around and charge at her but suddenly stop a few inches away and just gently nudge her with his nose. Then he'll scamper away again. He has been really good at letting them know it's time for him to go out and do his "happy dance" - he has little spurts of energy, so they let him outside into the yard and he leaps around with his toys like a puppy. It's a wonderful thing to see him so full of joy for the family. Price is getting along just fine with his 4 new feline siblings and they just ignore him. He's a great walker and everyone in the neighbourhood smile when they see him loping along the sidewalk with them. Price has brought so much love and energy into his new Forever Home and we know he is in a good place!
2 SAGA Greyhounds approved and working as PALS dogs at Calgary Children's Hospital!!
Master is almost 8 years old, and has been a PALS (Pet Access League Society) dog at the Alberta Children's Hospital for over a year with his Mom Tineke, a 21 year PALS volunteer. Master was a 4 time return to SAGA and took a while to come out of his shell before his real personality started to show. Once it did we knew he would be perfect for PALS. He gets very excited when his special PALS scarf and leash come out, he knows that he gets to visit the kids. Once at the Children's Hospital, he becomes very calm and patient, allowing everyone that comes to PALS night to pet and cuddle him. Radio is 4 years old and has just started his second career (his first being a race dog of course!) as a PALS dog with his Mom Gale, who has also been a PALS volunteer at the Children's Hospital for nearly 20 years. Radio is a ham, and a natural pet therapy dog, as he loves everyone and shows it by giving lots of kisses. Although Radio has just started his visiting, he will do well and bring joy to the sick kids and their families for a long time to come.
Forever (who has since been re-named "Jameson" due to his similarities to a tall glass of fine whiskey) has been settling in even better than his Forever Home expected. His older brother Niles has shown him the routine with regard to when to play and when to sleep, though his alpha-leadership aspirations are evident.
Clumsy but confident, cuddly and eager to please; this family's new boy has been a welcome dose of comedy and youthful exuberance, which has manifested itself in belly laughter and playful jubilation. He’s fascinated by anything on the other side of the window, moving or not. Which means mom cleans nose prints off the windows daily. He loves to take them for walks and is learning that it’s more comfortable when he’s not dragging people in tow. He feels that chew toys are somewhat juvenile and would much rather go for a ride with dad in the truck. One day mom let him out into the garage to welcome dad home by jumping up into his lap... while he was still in the driver’s seat. Surprise!
Jameson is a big boy with a healthy appetite. Apparently, they've never seen a Greyhound eat so fast or with such intensity to finish. Too bad there wasn’t a competition for that as he would surely place. He’ll sometimes walk around in a circle during his meal as he attempts to force down whatever he’d just inhaled. Despite his atrocious dining etiquette he is starting to fill out nicely.
SAGA is confident that Jameson is in a good place and his family tells us they are extremely happy to welcome such a fun boy into their family.
Quincy found a wonderful home when his first Forever Home didn't work out (through no fault of his own) and he is a super happy boy now. This beautiful, quiet and sweet natured six year old boy who loves to play with his toys (especially the squeeky ones!) is enjoying a very full life with his new Forever Home. He has had to have some teeth removed and his tongue pokes out a lot (so he looks super goofy sometimes!) but he still eats like he will never get another meal. His family loves to take him with them everywhere and did a road trip to B.C. this summer and Quincy was the perfect road tripping pooch, he slept almost the whole time. He was great on the boat and even got his own life jacket (just in case!). He was also the perfect gentleman around his Grandma's kitties. Slowly but surely Quincy's beautiful personality is coming out as he welcomes mom & dad home by picking up his toys and throwing them in the air!
We know that Quincy is living the good life and we're happy for him.
The foster home recently lost one of their beloved Greyhounds and the S.A.G.A. family had mourned with them. Well a wonderful surprise happened and this home that is already so full of Greyhound love asked to adopt Ambi. So our shy but loving Ambi has found his Forever Home and we know that he will be very happy as he already is very happy there! (ps. Ambi really likes cuddling with his new dad!)

Candy (now known as "Chowder") has really settled in to be a lovely girl, she is very affectionate! She and her new brother Barney have come a long way and are now very much friends. She has her own bed downstairs in the house but prefers to lie beside Barney's bed. The family thinks he enjoys having her around now. He pretends he doesn't but they're pretty sure he does.
Chowder's new winter coat and boots arrived in the mail a couple of days ago and she looks adorable all dressed up for the crazy cold nights that will come with the winter in Canmore, which is where she now lives. Apparently Chowder is pretty funny to watch trying to walk in her new boots! We're pretty confident that Chowder is also happy in her new Forever Home. :)

Howie found his Forever Home two years ago and quickly felt right at home. His mom and dad think he is the most amazing dog anyone could ask for, he’s laid-back and quiet, spending most of his time napping in sunny spots around their apartment, but he has a really silly side and loves to lie smack in the middle of the doorway between the kitchen and living room and gently “grab” anyone who walks by with his paws until they give him tummy scratches. He's so laid back that when his mom had to have a repair man over he had to step over Howie, who was sleeping in the middle of the doorway, in order to get to the living room. The repair man laughed and said “don’t move on my account!”. But this boy can have sudden bursts of goofy energy where he spins in circles with his favourite toy, or dashes sprints down the hallway like a maniac, but after about 5 minutes he’s spent. Can't tell he was a former racer can you?
Through some work mom is happy to say that Howie's food aggression and small dog "prey drive" issues have been lessened and he's doing a lot better and that the time spent working on these things has brought them an even closer bond.
Howie has won over everyone who he meets, even friends who are not dog people. His mom likes to think of him as an ambassador for dogs because everyone loves him simply due to the fact that he LOVES to get big hugs and pets, especially from kids, but is undemanding and gentle in return.
The biggest downside to Howie is that he’s so quiet that sometimes if his mom turns around too quickly in the kitchen she runs into him, because he’s snuck up behind her to see what she's up to! Howie is in a good place and SAGA couldn't be happier.
